Following on from the Light Printer, we continued our partnership with Printworks London by developing the Screen Printer.
Designed to leverage the monolithic screen of the press halls, it consists of a realtime video processing system and an articulated lighting and camera structure flown high above the audience.
Live images of the crowd are composited with graphic elements and processed through the Screen Printer, creating time-offset compositions, kinetic typography, and feedback effects, turning the screen into a digital mirror that can respond in dialogue with the audience.
Taking inspiration from the mechanics of print, repeat processes, image duplication and reinterpretation, the Screen Printer is intended as a playful celebration of the space, and a useful tool that can be fed a variety of sources and reinterpret them through an own-able graphic language throughout the season.
The system is built to evolve. New presets can be added and new inputs and content sources fed into it.
The visual core of the Screen Printer is an evolution of the software created for Elements and Rail 9, it stores 1000s of frames of live video data to create its time based compositions and runs at 60 fps with minimal latency.
Weâre excited to see its next iteration and explore further use cases for the Screen Printer.
